All iPhone 16 models may arrive with a 'new' Action button

Apple launched its latest iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro lineups in September. With the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max models, the Cupertino-based tech giant introduced a new user-configurable button known as the Action button. This button was restricted only to the Pro models in the iPhone 15 lineup. However, that is expected to change as Apple is reportedly planning to add the button to all iPhone 16 models. According to a report by MacRumors, the company is planning to include the Action button on the entire iPhone 16 lineup.

Apple started planning and designing the Action button in 2021. Initially, the company had plans to introduce the button alongside haptic-enabled volume and power buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro. Apple cancelled the haptic volume and power buttons due to unresolved technical issues, however, retained the Action button which eventually made its way into the iPhone 15 Pro‌ and Pro Max units.

The Action button replaces the mute switch on the iPhone 15 Pro models which served only a single purpose. In comparison, the Action button assists ‌iPhone‌ users with a variety of use cases. The button can be configured to perform a range of functions which include using the flashlight, camera, voice memo and more.
