How to stop WhatsApp from cluttering your phone's storage and gallery

WhatsApp is a widely used messaging platform that simplifies communication, but it can also contribute to clutter in your phone's storage and gallery app given we receive so many messages, multimedia files and more.

This can result in slow performance, unnecessary storage issues and more. This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to control and limit the automatic saving of media files, ensuring a cleaner and more organized device.

Default media visibility setting:
When you download a media file on WhatsApp, it is automatically saved to your phone's Gallery. By default, the Media visibility option is turned on. To change this setting and prevent media clutter:

Tap on the three dots for more options.
Go to Settings and then Chats.
Turn off Media visibility.
Note: This setting only affects new media downloaded after the change; it does not apply to existing media.

Stopping media cave in all chats:
To stop saving media from all your individual and group chats:

Tap on more options.
Go to Settings and then Chats.
Turn off Media visibility.
This prevents WhatsApp from automatically saving media in all your chats, maintaining a cleaner gallery.

Individual chat or group settings:
If you want to customize media visibility for specific chats or groups, follow these steps:

Open the individual chat or group.
Tap on more options and select View contact or Group info.
Alternatively, tap the contact's name or group subject.
Tap Media visibility, choose No, and confirm with OK.
This allows you to personalize media visibility settings for specific chats, giving you more control over what gets saved to your gallery.
