Apple introduced tvOS 17 in June and announced that users will soon be able to conduct meetings via their TV via Zoom and Webex apps. It appears that the Zoom video conferencing app is now available on Apple TV 4K. Until now, Apple offered FaceTime calls on Apple TV 4K.
The app was spotted by a user on X this weekend under a listing “Zoom - for Home TV” in the Apple TV version of the App Store. The app requires a second-generation Apple TV 4K or later to function and relies on the Continuity Camera of the iPhone and iPad.
Continuity Camera allows users to use their iPhones as cameras or microphones for video calls when connected to a large screen like a MacBook or TV.
“With Zoom you are one-click away from video meetings with gallery views, and screen sharing. Connect with anyone on other devices, Windows or Mac computers, mobile phones and tablets, Zoom Rooms, traditional conference room systems, and telephones,” Zoom App Store listing says.
How to make calls on Zoom app for TV
With the Apple TV app, Zoom users can start or join meetings with video and audio, view in-meeting chat, and even invite others to join the conversation. It also has a calendar integration, and users can even be assigned to a breakout room. Here’s how you can make a Zoom call using the Zoom TV app.
- Install and open the Zoom app on your TV.
- Login by either visiting a pairing URL on your phone to enter a code displayed on the TV or manually entering credentials on the screen.
- Once logged in, Zoom will prompt users to connect to their phone.
- Choose your account in case you are presented with shared users.
- Once selected, you will get a notification on your phone, accept it and you are good to go.
It's super easy! Once you install the Zoom app and sign in with your Zoom user account, you’ll be able to start or join Zoom meetings.
